1. File to almond or oval, not square

Square ends stop the eye horizontally. Almond and oval guide the eye lengthwise. Same nail, different illusion.

2. Push back the cuticle

Half a millimeter of exposed nail-bed reads as nail length. Use a cuticle pusher (not nipper) twice a week.

3. Vertical color, no horizontal lines

Skip horizontal French. Use a single color floor-to-tip, or a vertical chrome strip down the center. Vertical = longer.

4. Choose a milky or sheer color over your skin tone

Match the base to your skin and the eye reads "extended finger" rather than "ended nail". Glazed donut works for this exact reason.

5. Leave a tiny gap at the side walls

Painting all the way to the side wall makes the nail look wider, not longer. Leave a hairline gap at each edge.

6. Top with a gloss finish

Matte flattens the nail visually. Gloss adds a vertical light reflection that elongates.
